Mafraki island in Corfu
Mafraki is the smallest (3.1 km) of the three small islands of Corfu. With approximately 100 inhabitants it is located just 4 miles from Cape Arillas. The island has rich vegetation and it is sometimes difficult to find some of the houses in the settlements.
Many fine old stone paths lead off the main road leading to panoramic views. A cement road from the port leads to the bay of Apidia, where there used to be an old port, which is now abandoned and used as a fishing pier. In the areas of Kato Panta and George, there are many old houses hidden in the shade of huge trees. Through the village of Chorio, you can reach the southeast point from the island of Mafraki, to Arvanitiko, driving along a dirt road that leads to a bay with fine sand. It is a bay of absolute tranquility, Paradise on earth. There is a tavern on the beach, a few steps from the sea. In the northeastern part of the island is the huge Portelo beach with fine sand and crystal clear sea water. The depth of the beach is shallow, so it is suitable for all ages. On the western part of the island is a paradise for divers. And also for fishing with a gun and for all lovers of the underwater world. You can come by boat from Corfu, Agios Stefanos, in the northwest of Corfu (Arillas) and you can also rent a water taxi or a boat.
