In the western part of Greece (beyond the island of Mafraki) there is a small paradise, the island of Ofoni, with scattered settlements, with a few boarding houses, two or three taverns around the harbor and the ruins of a Venetian fortress. Ofoni are the largest of the smaller islands and offer an immersion in absolute tranquility.
Here you can walk along the alleys with traditional houses, ancient churches, look at the ruins of the Venetian castle and enjoy the breathtaking view. The hilly landscape, reaching a height of 393 meters, offers endless possibilities for walking. You can also rent a boat on the green water beach and sail to the Calyaso cave, where, according to myth, Calypso held Odysseus captive in her arms. The cave of Calypso is located in a place inaccessible from land, on the western edge of the island, and is 100 meters long, 10-15 meters wide and 20 feet high, with two entrances and exits.
Ofoni Islands are the westernmost part of Greece. It belongs to the prefecture of Corfu and is a separate community. Distance from the city of Corfu 36 miles, 6 miles from the island of Mafraki and 8 miles from the island of Erikus. There are 44 other small islands belonging to Ofoni, with names like Petalides (5 islands), Kartsinia (3 islands), Garmpino, Kastrinos, Virgin, and many others. Ofoni is the largest of the smaller islands, with a total area of 10.45 sq. km length is about 5.6 km, the greatest width is about 3.6 km and a circumference of 30 km along the coast.
